Maria Menounos

Maria was helping her mother with Stage 4 cancer of the brain. She discovered that she was in severe health issues. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. In the exclusive cover report of PEOPLE, Menounos reveals that she experienced headaches and lightheadedness on sets. "My speech became slurred. It was also difficult for me to understanding the prompter on the teleprompter." An MRI showed that Menounos had a golf-ball-size meningioma brain tumor that was pushing the facial nerves. Menounos booked an appointment to see her mother's doctor the renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Keith L. Black to schedule surgery for June 8th, her 39th birthday. Dr. Black stated that the tumor was 98 per cent benign. But, we won't have the ability to determine until we get there. The complex operation took about seven hours. Dr. Black was capable of removing 99.9 percent of the benign cancer. According to Dr. Black, there is a 6-7 percent chance of it coming back. It's a good thing I can accept these odds at any moment. Now back at home after an eight-day stay in the hospital, Menounos recuperating and enjoying some time with her mother, Litsa Her most recent MRI proves her cancer remains well-controlled.
